I am researching the last few weeks of two Oflags. One of the men’s diaries states that he was on a Hampden that crashed from 30′ on take off from a Brussels airfield. This sounds totally wrong. I am presuming having been captured in 1940 he is confusing a HP Hampden for a HP Halifax, which were used for this purpose.
However I do know that one Stirling had problems on take off. I am therefore just to be on the safe side, trying to trace records of any crashes of RAF aircraft at any Brussels airfield over these days.
Thanks in advance

Handley Page Harrow
Thanks for the idea of a Harrow. A Harrow would fit the description of the wheels coming through the floor of the crashed aircraft. All the best.

I’m afraid I can’t help with any precise details, but it’s worth bearing in mind that a handful of Handley Page Harrows were still in service as casualty evacuation aircraft. They were operated as a special flight within 271 squadron, which was mostly equipped with Dakotas.
