You fool, you could have simply removed the cases, dumped the contents and enlarged your shed with the timber. :p

Pearing through the cracks in the walls there was an old winch lorry which I think was probably used to the raise the balloon I dont know if its still there. I saw a few crated Spitfires but cant get any more in my shed so I left them.:diablo:

I had heard it was stuffed full of Corgi models of the Stirling. Crated. And in Chinese markings.

The yard outside the hangar was cleared some time ago, it was full of tonnage of old vehicle parts some military no aviation stuff, I think the hangar has also been cleared although not sure, it was also full but I never went inside. The hangar has been taken over by a crane hire firm and will not be taken down its a listed building. I did call them a while ago and they were happy for me to take a look but i havent got around to it yet.

There’s a little bit of info on Pawlett here, http://www.airfieldinformationexchange.org/community/showthread.php?6145-Pawlett-Balloon-Hangar
Seems the site may have been a range with the balloon hangar relocated to it?

What a facinating thread. As a historically aware aviator imagine my surprise in finding out this facility existed less than 4 miles from my front door…and not knowing about it until this morning!

I’ll pop over this week and see what’s up. The locals I’ve chatted to think it’s full of scrap cars/farm equipment…..

Almost a bigger sin than spelling pasty incorrectly, eh Pagey? 😉

This from someone who uses the word “aswel” on a regular basis:D:D

My use of ‘pasty’ (pasty, pasties) and ‘aswel’ can be put down to my bad spelling and grammer, though both words are seen in those spellings – however hanger and hangar are two different words with very different meanings.
When an object has a distinct word or name it needs to be right – just my nit picking.:)
My point is that even Google appears to have it wrong in this case.:D

As for the contents it sounds like the usual myth about aviation treasure lying undiscovered, but probably worth checking out if possible.

Great article about the site and developing cable cutting devices,
http://www.bbrclub.org/Tom%20Flack.htm

I recall researching a fatal Fairey Battle crash near here, to fly on purpose into a cable must have been hellish test pilot work.

Much of the work carried out by Johnny Kent

What about contacting Graham Adlam (forumite) who lives close to this hangar and see if he could pop round and ask.

Baz

Really, I didn’t know that…

I suppose I could just ring them up and ask, but I thought I would ask here first to see if anyone knew if it carried water.

Where’s this hangar/shed then, and what’s reputed to be in it?
