Shoreham Aerojumble – Sat 31 March 2012

Being in the grip of the mid winter darkness and cold, a thought to cheer all collectors; the Shoreham 2012 Aerojumble.

The next event will be at the usual Shoreham Airport venue on Sat 31 March 2012 so when you get those diaries in your Christmas stockings you know which date you need to enter first!

This will be the only Shoreham Aerojumble in 2012 as I have decided just to run one per year from now on, this being the March/early spring event.

Hope to see you there!

Hi Brian

That number looks Hawkerish. AW did make seahawks, and possibly Hunters. May well be from one of these machines…

Spot on Elliot, Seahawk it is:

I’d like to add my thanks to Andy and team for organising Saturday, i have to admit to eating a bacon roll for breakfast and a well cooked burger at lunch time………..no problems……………

Anyway for my best buy, that was the Spitfire Head Armour from P9316.
a bonus is that the pilot, P/O Appleford who bailed out of it on 4th September 1940 is still with us and lives just 10 miles from me !

Looking forward to getting it signed !

Cheers all

Jules

Thanks Elliot – I will research further Hawker – the bolts are fairly chunky and should be visible on any half decent photo.

However – Often the case that the panels I get are bottom panels and not many walkarounds bother to look underneath..

Also been checking and the Mosquito part (S) are definitely from an elevator

I bought this blue panel as an unknown on Saturday for the massive sum of £1.

He thought it was US – But the inspection stamp is AW.

Any ideas anyone.

Also the Mosquito elevator – anyone know the aircraft it was from . Paintwork looks Belgian?

My favourite items were a pair of Hurri I tailwheels off JP’s stall. No I didn’t need them (I have approximately 6 already), but one, to my delight, has a HA stamp.

Bought some stuff for the Mk1 Spit and a Hurri landing lamp control. Also succumbed to the usual boredom buys!!
I though the van smelt nice but after my food episode the night before was glad I avoided it !!

Art Decco Heaven.

I thankfully avoided the burger-van, but did have an excellent breakfast in the lovely art-decco terminal. Quite a bit of history there for 1930’s flying buffers. I bought a few books, a cable tensiometer and a large box of unused valves. Took a bit of a flyer on the latter, as I’m not 100% sure what they are until I can find my parts list….
The Early Birds is an excellent idea, as we managed to finish at 1000h. Quite a trek and a night away for us, – but we will definately try some more aerojumbles this year..! 🙂

Ta, Andy.

Thanks from us Northwesters who came down for last Saturday’s event, Andy.

A good slog – a 636-mile round-trip – but worth it. Good to catch up with some Forumites and meet a few new ones, too. I used to do the trip there and back in a day but now I/we make more of a meal of it with a night out, as well (as you know and which went well).

Interested to hear about this Staverton thing. Don’t think I’ve ever been to a jumble there, nor was I aware of there ever being one (before my time, perhaps?).

If not, I’m already looking forward to next year’s Shoreham, but it seems such a long time to wait!:(

Hi Ian!

I am always sorry at these events that I never get a chance to talk to people properly and only barely managed “Hello!” to you and Philippa, much as I’d have liked to have a chance to chat. Never mind….Aunt Phil is coming down to stay with us ‘ere long.

Meanwhile…see you at Staverton. Or on the telly! 😉

Staverton should be good and I’ll post details when I can.

Sorry about the dodgy burger….the bacon rolls were awful, too! Usually its my breakfast on the day, but I didn’t bother to try any other of their dubious wares and couldn’t even quite face the tea or coffee, either!

Everything else made up for it, though, and it was pleasing to see so many delighted buyers – including not only many of the usual avid collectors but also a goodly number of those from the historic aircraft world who made interesting finds and purchases for current restoration projects.

My only gripe was with the catering. Poor quality and over-priced.

Hi Andy,

Many thanks for leaving the early passes on the gate for Mark G and me – I had a great day and found some cracking things I’ve been after for a while – best was an early Bowie-bladed aircrew knife with orange patch (sewn onto a Mk2 suit).

I definitely concur about the catering though – the burger I had was a constant reminder of the event, right up until lunchtime today 😮 Even Mark G commented “…. this burger is disgusting” and I had to agree.

Hope you do run an event at Staverton as it’s almost my home airfield (Kemble would be better though 😀 ).

Staverton, yay, the wheel comes full circle, some of the earliest ‘jumbles were held there!

Just don’t let it clash with Beaulieu, 8-9th September please as a number of us ‘jumblers head off to Beaulieu for the wonderful autojumble weekend.

I am glad everyone seemed to enjoy it and that all went well – despite the fact that the weather was a little grey and chilly. From my point of view, it was a success; thus, the next will be on 6 April 2013.

My only gripe was with the catering. Poor quality and over-priced. I won’t be using those caterers again, but will revert to the burger van we used to use although have had to use yesterdays caterers for the past events because they were the airport catering company who we were obliged to offer the concession to. They are no longer the airport catering company and I no longer have any obligation to use them.

Other than that, thank you all for supporting it and to let you know that I have ben asked to organise a September aerojumble at Staverton for the Jet Age Museum.

Watch this space……!!

Glad it went well, and that some nice pieces turned up. Gutted that i couldn’t go in the end, but work demands just made it impractical to drive a 300 mile round trip for a half hour visit.!

Another good event, picked up a Douglas C54 yoke and a pair of Luftwaffe goggles which I was pleased about. Plenty of Aircraft grips and interesting parts about. Thanks to Andy and any others who organised / helped with the event.

Another excellent Aerojumble, Andy…..well done! 🙂

Fortunately I didn’t have to bring the ‘fuel contingency plan’ into operation…

…a plan so complicated it made the tanker-plan for operation ‘Black Buck’ look like popping down to Tesco’s to fill-up with unleaded! 😀
