Hi everyone
Here’s a pic of a data plate type thing on a piece I found recently in a shed. Question is
a) is it Spitfire ? Seem to recall having seen numbers like it on other Spitfire parts, or maybe it was the stamp – I honestly cannot remember !
b) is it possible to determine a serial for the aircraft in question from this info?
Cheers

What we have here is the firewall top of Mk VIII MD228 sitting atop the front end fuselage of Mk V BS199.
It is all in the boo…

That’s the one ! 🙂 The fuse had been moved from one “shed” to another yesterday to be worked on and used as a reference, certainly needs a bit of tlc. I’ve only got one pic from late this arvo but you can see the plate easily enough.

One of Bob Eastgate’s projects.

Hi Mark
Thanks for that. Spent a bit of time working on this today – thanks to a restorer over here checking records it would seem it was indeed a MkVIII – MD228
I will try and get a decent pic of it next week as it’s now attached to a piece of fuselage over at the restorers, though my camera is on its last legs – at least Xmas is approaching !

The is the sub-contracted frame 5 firewall top from a Mk VIII Spitfire. Presumably Australian.
Perhaps you could show us the complete piece. 🙂
