hi,
just been passing the time on the IWM site and amongst the jobs going are 2 for conservation assistants ” to allow the Duxford based large objects to be prepared ahead of the gallery decant of Lambeth rd in Autumn 2012″…
Does this mean a display change around? and if so what?
regards
jack…

I use to like the imperial war museum in the 1960s early 70s. When they had lots of things in cabnets. So you cold look at all sorts of things, not just the few things they had last time i went there about 8 years ago.

David……….go with you on that one. I remember going there in the late 50s and early 60s, the place was fascinating: as you say loads of display cabinets. My last visit was probably in the 90s, Disneyfication was well under way by then. Wonder what this latest “massive refurbishment” will bring about, if it is anything like IWM North I won’t bother rushing to London in 2014!! Well at least the Olympics will be out of the way!!!

That sounds like it’ll be bedlam.
I knew someone who grew up in a street near the IWM and the locals still called it Bedlam in the 1960s

Lets hope they find time to fix the undercarriage on the Spitfire
Lets hope they don’t repaint it.

If they are moving the Halifax nose out maybe now they could donate it to the Yorkshire Air Museum..

Last I heard, Hangar 5 was earmarked for the London exhibits once the B-17 and Vampire are finished and moved out.
But I stand to be corrected. :p

I hope they exhibit the London stuff in Duxford so those living outside London get a chance to see them, don’t hide them away in storage.

IWM London is closing for a couple of years for a massive refurbishment. Exhibits are being moved to Duxford for restoration/storage.

Clever….
That sounds like it’ll be bedlam.
It was Bedlam – the Bethlem Royal Hospital from 1815 to 1930.
But I suspect you knew this??!!
DR
I remember seeing close-up the wonderful airframes that spend some time at Duxford while the current Large Exhibits Gallery at Lambeth was being created – FW190, He-162 etc.
