It would be nice to see some sort of flying display at Larkhill/Netheravon/Upavon. If only to see the Be2 flying low over Stonehenge.
There was a small event this year to mark 100 years of military aviation with a landing at the former Stonehenge airfield – now National Trust land. Unfortunately bad weather restricted it to just three Austers – a flight of SE5a replicas had to cancel. It commemorated the formation of No 2 (Aeroplane) Company, Air Battalion Royal Engineers, under the command of Captain J D B Fulton, Royal Field Artillery at nearby Larkhill on 1 April 1911.

Here in NZ the Vintage Aviator is having an ANZAC Day airshow in April. I read yesterday they have just registered three more WWI aircraft, another Albatross and an RE.8 among them.
Did the Royal Flying Corps attain the Royal title right from the beginning?

One would imagine that 2 and 3 Squadrons will have something planned.
At the very least another ‘simultaneous’ take off would be nice!

There should also be some sort of ceremony in July for the 100th aniversary of the RFC’s first fatal crash just up the road from Stonhenge at Airman,s Cross.
I think plans are in the pipe line to do something in that area, but nothing firm as yet.

I know Stow Maries Aerodrome are planing an event for May Bank holiday weekend 5th- 6th – 7th of May, star attraction will hopefully be Biggles Biplane BE2 replica!
Sywell Airshow on the 19th of August will have a healthy WW1 and RFC presence to mark the aniversary.
Anyone else who may be planing an event, the BE2 is available for displays next season.

I have been told that Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire is planning to host a small event (possibly a talk) to mark the anniversary and the county’s early aviation history; but this may me in June time to tie in with the local anniversary aspects.
No doubt details will be posted on their website when they are formally announced!

The RAF are celebrating by making the size of the RAF in 2012 the same as the RFC was in 1912..
