I notice in the current edition of the “other magazine” a small news article about the Jet Age Museum’s planned event to celebrate the combined anniversaries of the Javelin and Vulcan. Commendable! The odd thing was, the Vulcan cockpit scheduled to be present was clearly mentioned several times as being “XM597”.
I’m assuming the good folk at Staverton aren’t planning a trip up to the Museum of Flight in Lothian with a chainsaw to separate XM597’s cockpit from the rest of her?
Seems a pretty daft mistake. I guess the author meant XM569, already a cockpit at Staverton; however it’s not exactly an obviously excusable typo, and to repeat it several times as well just smacks of poor research and proofreading. Surely our national aviation magazines can employ someone to check the serials before putting an article to press?

I was particularly amused by the full colour profile of a metal fuselaged Vampire in a recent magazine who can remain nameless, but should be familiar to all those who post here…..

Blue – that’s nothing! In a previous article about said Hemp aircraft, the same magazine spelt MY name wrong! Because it was written in black and white in an international magazine, which is free from all errors, I actually had to change my name by Deed poll to match the ‘error’.

don’t worry, an aviation magazine much closer to home printed our Victor’s name as ‘Lusty Linda’ recently…
