……….
I wonder why the Buchon has been put up for sale, though? I thought that the owners were putting together a proper bad-ass collection of warbirds – Spitfire T.9 MJ772 was going to their facility after completion, was it not?
Well, I do not know, I am just guessing. When looking at the concept of their collection, it seems to me to be quite straight. They want to show the way a fighter pilot in WW II had to go – for 4 different Air Forces. Britain, USA, Russia and Germany. They do have flying primary trainers – Tiger Moth, Stearman, Po 2 and Bรผcker Jungmann. They have a flying Yak 9, had a flying P-51. They have a flying Buchon. They will get a TF-51, and a Spitfire T.9. And there seems to be a Bf 109 on the way. Maybe even a replacement P-51 some day and a Spitfire, I have no idea. A Bf 109 G-12 would be nice, but personally I doubt it (where would you get one?). But….. if you can get a Bf 109, why not sell the Buchon? That is only my guess, but it seems to have some logic in it IMHO.

Yes you are way off the mark, it had nothing to do with materials used in the restoration.
This was about the time the whole TFC fleet started to be grounded so it was, at the new owners request dismantled and shipped to the USA.
Humblest apologies, I thought I had read that somewhere…

CAA wouldn’t allow it to fly in the UK, then they tried to get the FAA to ground it in the US. The FAA promptly told them to eff off.
The FAA didnt do that at all.

I might be well off the mark here, but I think it was something to do with materials used in the restoration. The CAA are anal as hell when it comes to things like that.

Why wouldn’t the CAA alow a newly restored spitfire to fly in the UK???

Cant forget how long we waited to see that MK 18 restored at DX and then never even see a test flight of it as it was shipped straight out to Jim Beasley!

I would donate the Hurricane to the Indians, they need a flyable Hurri and that would put paid to LF363 being swopped for a pile of scrap.

Well I don’t have the cash, but if a few million quid dropped in my lap I like to think I’d purchase the Firefly and donate it fully-restored to RNHF, and the NZ Hurri (P3351) and donate it to BBMF. The Firefly doesn’t really need explaining, and the Hurri I’d like to see balance up BBMF’s Spit-Hurri ratio. There are various times when BBMF don’t have a Hurri available (they’ve been managing with just LF363 this past season, for example, while PZ865 has been under overhaul) , and so the flight often have to make do with either another Spit or an empty slot, which does an injustice to the Hurri’s part in the BofB.

The Spit, Hurricane & Firefly have been for sale on that site for over a year now.
A lot of that stuff on that site has been sold. They had another Spit listed several years after it was sold & had gone back to the UK..

There was a good thread about Diemert on here (and over on WiX) before. Mind-boggling stuff!

That Firefly is a very sociable aeroplane – when Bob Diemart had it, he configured it for 8 ( yes!) , and bolted on a merlin from a York.
๐ฎ I’ve never seen that before!
