Mystery F4U-5 in France

F4U Folks:

Good day!

We know the real Buno 122179 is being restored somewhere in France. Now the Wix register shows its ID as Buno 123168 which is what I thought the Buno to be back in June ’87, when I saw it at Ft. Lauderdale or Buno 124XXX when I talked to Pete Thelen.

Later on,… back in 2010 we found out via Wix forum discussions that its most likely Buno was 124493.

Will someone close to this F4U restoration please take a close-up picture of the R/ AFT section mod id plate by the radio compartment and let us know what numbers does it show?

Thanks in advance for the time & attention!

You’re welcome. Stupid of me to not have noticed the new tail. I shall try to get over to Dole to see this lovely bird.

I am sure the owner would not agree in view of it having grown a rear fuse and empennage!!

Here is the photo of the Parizon Corsair. Not much change since the one posted earlier it seems.

Jean-Pierre Parizon kindly sent me a recent photo of the Corsair.
I shall post it if he agrees, so please stand by.

I have been in touch with Jean-Pierre Parizon. He has it at Dole. It is, he confirms, F4U-5N, BU 122179, C/N 0301.
Hope this helps

F4U-5 Folks/HappyMeal/IGarey:

Good day!

Tks for the info and data about Buno 122179.

Included is a pic of how it looked c. 2008 poss Jura, France. It will be interesting to know how the restoration is going and the possible findings of the R/aft id plate. Photo Alu c. 2008 via FlypastForum. There is also a FW-190 under restoration at the same place.

Jean-Pierre has a business in Dole, on the airport, dealing mainly AFAIK with avionics and maintenance. I know that the center section of the Corsair has been there for a while. Just do not know if it has notbeen moved since.

Jean-Pierre Parizon is at Lons-le Saunier in the department of Jura (not in fact a town!). Not far from here. I don’t know the answers to your questions directly, but this thread might help:

I shall keep my nose to the ground and try to find out a bit more. Our local Lausanne historic aircraft group has contacts at Lons. I flew their Chipmunk for a while. Nice!

Sorry. I can’t help. Jura is as far east in France as I am west. Laurence Garey is closer. He may be able to help or suggest someone who can.

Mystery F4U-5 In France

Avion Ancien:

Good day!

With the due apologies. The aircrafft is being restored to flying condition E. of France in a city named Jura. It belongs to Mr. Jean Pierre Parizon collection.

Ref: Alu via Flypast May 2008.

Photos of this restoration are rare for now!! Any help will be welcome. We are looking for the id data /picture of id plate on the aft L/side by the radio compartment/battery side panel.

This data just came in via nick Sidsiko via Wix”

“For what it’s worth, all three were built under different contract numbers, which should be stamped on any Mod plate.

122179 contract number 8133
123168 contract number 9771
124493 contract number 10302.

All three were SOC at Litchfield Park as transferred to non Navy reipient, 28th December 1955″.

Sid

Any help will be welcome.

Tks in advance.

France is rather a large country. You may have to be a touch more specific as to where, in France, the restoration is taking place to have any hope of obtaining the required assistance.
