Please help me! I have a propellor in my attic? Where is it from?

Hi All!

Firstly please except my apologies if this question is in the wrong part of the forum! Also, i’m new to all this.

I was told to pop over here from the guys at ww2aircraft.net as they said this place is full of knowledge.

A few years ago my late grandfather gave me a proppelor, untill now it has been stored in my attic! I was hoping to find some info on it?
I have pictures, but both id plates have been rubbed out, which makes it almost impossible for me to research!

The measurements :
Height – 7ft 4in (2m 24cm)
width at centre 9 1/2 inch (24cm)

It also has a barometer fitted.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Pete.

A pleasure!

I hope it helps you to enjoy it all the more.

Of course, if you happen to have forgotten to mention that it was found on the beach near Southend it might become rather more interesting!!

( Look up Amy Johnson…;) )

I thought we had already established it is ex-Oxford?

Yes, sorry, I’d missed in the tangle of the other thread that that engine is a Cheetah IX from an Anson and this prop is off a Cheetah X from an Oxford.

I did think the other thread may have been of interest to the OP being a similar engine, so I thought I’d provide a link here

So, would this propeller come from this engine:

Quite an interesting coincidence

But if he checks the barometer it will tell him when to move it from the loft :p

If you do pop it back wrap it up well 🙂

It could probably benefit from being kept somewhere other than your attic – the temperatures in such places can vary considerably and you would not want it to deteriorate.

funny you should say that, but my mum told me that my grandad used to tap it every morning without fail!

It’s the prop which should be going round in circles.
You should get the wifes permission to hang it in the hall, then each morning tap the barometer and become a weather forecaster. Lord knows, the Met Office need some new ones.

Obviously i’m not looking to get rid of this! but does it have any monetary value? Do i need to insure it seperatly? (before it goes back in the attic)

And i’d like to thank you all for the info! i would of been going around in circles still!!

cheers

I think the white one has the remains of “Cheetah X L.H.”

The plate isnt covered in paint, its been rubbed/scraped purposely! which made me think it might of been stolen?

The prop has been stored in my Attic for about 12 years! it wasnt found up there. It was passed down to me (through family) from my Greatgrandfather!

I agree with Andy.
Both dimensions seem to tie up with an Anson propeller.

There are plenty of people on here who are trained to deal with loft infestations of this sort.

I am thinking Anson or Oxford?

Are any numbers visible on the data plate that seems to be covered in whitish paint?
