Lockheed Electra L-188a C/n 1028 X FAH 555.. is now registered with Air Spray as C-GNPB. It’s finallly getting ready for the ferry trip N of the border from famous Toncontin, Honduras.
The Allisons have been cranking/warming up and some taxiing runs/turns were done yesterday with few leaks!
We dislike to let it go up north but we also know, that after its last take off from Toncontin,… better skies await this fine flying machine. It has been on temp storage at Tonconting for the last 13 years!
We ask the spotters in S. Florida or Houston area to keep an eye for this fine bird during its ferry fuel-stops in the U.S.
Good Job AirSpray & blue skies at Red Deer!! Photo G/Air Oct -2011. 😉

Electra L-188
TonyT:
Good day!
Tks for data & info. There was no smoke or fire upon landing but it was a short 12 Min test trip. They’re still working with some bugs with #3 engine and some cockpit readings. We ‘ll keep you posted. Bemardox via U-Tube Dec-2011.
Included is the video of the cx take-off last Dec 1- 2011!!

No normally it is a fuel saving measure, do not know the Electra and it’s systems, but you may find the inners engines do hydraulics etc and outers say electrical generation, so you wouid need one of each running on each side to avoid assymetric thrust and to maintain systems. Short check flight may be snags or simply everything went well, if he has a snag on a system he needs later in the air test, there is no point burning fuel so he might as well get it fixed as he will need it later in the schedule.
You will find stuff like that all the time, the VC 10 as an example though we would vary the initial engine we started to even the load on them, we always used to start the inner engines first, then if you have a problem such as a fire on start, that way you are not working / trying to extinguish a fire with another engine running above you.

L-188A Electra going to AirSpray
L-188 Folks/A & P Folks:
Good day!
Just a few questions about the short Ck flight.
The pilot shot down engines #1 & #3 after the landing and then proceded to taxi this way. Do the sequence of engine shutdown indicates problems on board?? Do the short flight indicates more work still needs to be done?? How long does a FCF on a L-188 usually last??
Tks in advance

I remember the damn Electras from Hunting, when they were closing down and shutting up shop, the things sat running all day on the compass bay outside my hangar for days, enquiring why, I was told they needed to offload the fuel from them prior to disposal and as they had nowhere to put it they were converting the stuff into heat and noise……

L-188A Electra going to AirSpray
Dave/L-188A Folks:
Good day!!
On 3 Dec 2011 at apprx 12:00L hrs our fine L-188A X FAH 555 finally took to the air fm famous Toncontin airport in Honduras. After some 13 years in storage the fine crew decided it was time for the bird to spread its wings again. What a sound of those Allison engines made roaring down the runway!
What a sight even fm a distance to see this magnificent flying machine do what Lockheed intended back c 1957 to do. The flight was short and uneventful and more testing will follow up soon. If flew for appx only 12 minutes.
We’ll keep you posted about the ferry flight north to Air-Spray in Canada. Video The Harold2010 via U-Tube.
Good Job Air-Spray & Crew…we know that was not an easy task!!
Good skies!!
