When did warbirds become popular?

How long after WW2 did German aircraft become popular with the British public for reasons other than to see what Jerry was flying against our boys?
Airshows today feature aircraft from all over the world many of which are used in opposing forces but I’m interested to know when Messerschmitt’s, Focke-Wulf’s, Heinkel’s, Junkers and Dornier’s etc became of interest as flying display aircraft.
