Now that winter has arrived, there’s time to rummage through the archives and present some old photos. For anyone who missed the first 33 posts, these pictures were ‘inherited’ and digitised by Tony Clarke from a huge uncaptioned collection of negatives taken in East Anglia by the late Gerald Lawrance.
This set of Javelin photos is from airshows in the early 60’s, exact dates and locations are unknown except where noted. Any additional information and comments would be very welcome. Most data came from the excellent 1975 Javelin monographs by Roger Lindsay (with thanks).
To start, here are three of the four FAW.1 Javelins that equipped the Air Fighting Development Squadron at Coltishall 1960-1961. All were built in 1955 and withdrawn for scrapping in 1962.

Another early FAW.1 is XA566/B without unit marks but operated by the All Weather Wing at West Raynham 1956-1957.Later serving with 46 Sq and 87 Sq, it was again scrapped 1962:
XA636 is an FAW.4 with 41 Sq marks. Looking like a USAF event, it was scrapped in 1963:
Two shots of FAW.5 XA654 of 23 Sq (The only FAW.5 to serve with that unit, in 1958/59) scrapped in 1963:
Another FAW.5, XA703/Y is from 41 Sq and was displayed at Wethersfield 9-5-59:
A series of shots showing 46 Sq based at Waterbeach. 46 Sq was the only unit to be wholly equipped with the FAW.2:
XA768/D was the first FAW.2, first flight on 25-4-56 and expiring after 1962 at Foulness:

XA801/F was later 7739M and lasted until around 1994 at Stafford:
