The hand-painted nose art was just recently applied as well: http://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-restorations/thats-all-brother-the-nose-art-interview.html

Here are some recent photos from the CAF Central Texas Wing “That’s All Brother” Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/thatsallbrother/) as well:

As the original news piece mentions and illustrates, as well as some of the linked photos show, the invasion stripes were applied with brushes as well, and done purposely to look rushed/imperfect. What you can’t easily see is that the whole aircraft is covered in the original factory stencils as well (thanks to AirCorps Aviation).

“That’s All Brother” was the lead aircraft on Mission Albany, leading 432 aircraft on the night of June 5th, 1944 (the Pathfinders and RAF already had made prior drops before this), and was not the lead plane of the entire D-Day invasion.

I was compiling a list yesterday of C-47’s, C-53’s and Dakotas, flying today, that participated in the D-Day invasion 74 years ago, and I came up with these:

– SE-CFP “Daisy”
– PH-PBA “Prinses Amalia”
– “Drag ‘Em Oot”
– “Placid Lassie”
– “Tico Belle”
– “Whiskey 7”
– “That’s All Brother”
– “Sky King”
– Kermit Weeks’ 43-15211
– 42-92606
– “Second Choice”
– Buffalo Airways’ C-GWZS
– “Mayfly”
– “Virginia Ann”
– “D-Day Doll”
– N43XX “Thunderbird Flying Service”
– Lyon Air Museum’s N16005
– Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s C-GRSB (soon to be returned to its original RAF markings)

There are a number of others that could be listed but are not currently flyable.
