Karl , sad to say that Fred Chatwin passed away a few years ago now but I believe his widow Jean is still alive ? Both were active members of the local Aircrew Association branch and the Middleton St George Memorial Committee .
He got shot down on Ops to Leuna in Lancaster KB799/VR-W Moosehead on 15 January 1945 and all of the crew except for the pilot managed to bale out and became POW’s .
I’m not sure where in Canada Fred came from but he courted local girl Jean and they married on his return to the UK . They emigrated to Canada but Jean never settled so Fred returned to the UK . He was a nice man , but then they all were .

Yes , ‘Ropey’ was a Canadian built Mk X KB772 , VR-R and completed 64 Ops before returning to Canada on 5 June 1945 . A photograph of her appears on page 121 of The Lancaster at War , Garbett and Goulding , Ian Allan , 1971 (!). The photo is often credited as being taken at Middleton St George but it is actually Pearce , Alberta when she was stored there .

Dan,
Am I right in thinking this was the sqn with the ‘sharks teeth’ Lanc (‘Ropey’)? That would be a colour scheme.
