He 70 performance

I have a little bit of some unusual questions perhaps regarding the German aircraft Heinkel He 70:

1. Could this aircraft under any circumstances fly 1800 km without refueling?
2. Could it be equipped with ski landing gear?

All my best,

The Wiki page gives the type’s range as 2,100 km. So there would be no problem, one would assume, for it to fly any distance within that, operational standards and safety margins etc. aside.

Most aircraft of the era could be equipped with skis, and there’s no reason to think the He 70 couldn’t. However it would require that the undercarriage was fixed down, which would negate much of the type’s streamlining and performance – for instance the range would be drastically affected.

There were some types with specially adapted retractable ski gear, but not many – there would certainly be evidence, and it would only be developed if there was a major need.

There’s a great difference between ‘could’ and ‘did’ however. Without evidence suggesting so, I’d be sceptical of claims the He 70 was equipped with skis.
