My newspaper carried an obituary for the faring forth of former Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot, Flight Lieutenant Wallace Cunningham aged 94. Fl. Lt. Cunningham joined 19 Squadron at Duxford just before the start of the Battle.
Throughout 1940 and part of 1941 he was very busy and removed many of Goering’s finest from the fray – permanently. Whilst escorting Blenheims on an attack over Rotterdam, he was himself shot down and taken prisoner.
He then started a new career as an artist drawing cartoons to record and reflect life as a prisoner. He was a persistent and dedicated escaper. He has now joined the Immortals in Valhalla. How Few they were then and how few they are now.

He seems to have had a very full and interesting life during and after the war, a life well lived, rest in peace Flt Lt Cunningham.
