Avspecs limited who are restoring KA114 for Jerry Yeagan’s Fighter Factory today posted on their Facebook page a plea for help to find a pair of spinner backing plates with a flight in the Mossie as a reward.

Do I detect a note of ‘if onlys’ here? What am I offered for a ride in a DH 82a, a DH 83c, a DH 84a and a DH94 all on the same day, place and pilot?
But only if they swing the prop…….

I can’t offer you much I’m afraid. A sit in my Jaguar cockpit is about the best I can do, unless you want a Su22 fin.

How many of our intrepid forum members would actually take a Mosquito ride?
Abso-bloomin-lutely
I have a hunch a significant number would refuse out of fear…:D
Absolutely not!!!

I see they posted a vid of a Hydraulic test with the pumps eing driven by electric motors on the bomb bay.

I have concerns about the accident rate of twin-engined historic aircraft.
I would only feel safe to fly in it if they did the flight on one engine.
Look on the bright side. lose an engine on the likes of a modern Seneca and the other one is almost guaranteed to deliver you to the crash site.
😀

If I had the items required, I would forego the flight just to see it do a few passes over Hunsdon airfield next June 23rd at about 13:00 😉

Oh, I think I’d cope with the noise, vibration and discomfort of the cramped conditions. Just for half an hour or so.:D

In any case it is so awfully, awfully uncomfortable, what with the noise, vibration and cramped conditions.
Not a problem. I used to have an Austin Allegro.

Then there would be no flight as it would not have enough urge to become airborne.

Backplates
Just a little snippet I recall…
Apparently, Bruce, there is a difference of one-half of an inch in the diameter of a Lancaster backplate compared to a Mosquito unit.
I remember this being flagged by somebody somewhere many years ago to illustrate their point about minimal interchangeability between similar engine installations/airframes and the extra costs this must have caused during wartime.
Anon.

I’ve got lots of spinner backplates. but none for a Mosquito….
They are also the same as for a CASA 2-111 if it helps
