Around 11 this morning I was stirred from my workshop to the sound of a Spitfire , looking down to the seafront from the hospital I work at there was a full display from a Spit and a really good display at that, It centrered around the beach between the marina and Palace pier, It looked really good in the blue sky so my question is does anyone know what it was for, who was the pilot and what Spit,
I think the Spit was the BBMF PM 631 as it was blue and had the invasion stripes and to me sounded like a Griffon engine.
Whoever it was certainly put in a great display we lost sight of it below the buildings so it must have been low over the beach.

I know I’ll probably be slated for this, but I quite liked the setting of the display to the theme from 633 Squadron in the second clip.
I know it’s more associated with the Mosquito, but it still works! 😉

Not heard of this pilot before and i have to say looking at the video i don’t think i’ve ever seen a Spit thrown about in as many tight turning manoeuvres as this is.
Is this using a higher power setting or more G Forces than other Spitfires are allowed to use?

It could be Peter Teichmans Spitfire
PL965(Pete T’s PR.XI) doesn’t have stripes on anymore either.

If Dan flew her like he did at Rougham then he certainly did get a fantastic sending off!

Yes displays like this require a CAA exemption.
Dan Griffith was the pilot.
Cheers

TA805 – Spirit of Kent doing a funeral flypast.
The gentleman in question asked for a Spitfire to display as his funeral procession paused on Madeira Drive.
Job done! i hope he had a fitting send off.
Many thanks for the info , well yes whoever he was he had a brilliant display to send him off.
I assume the Kent Spitfire would have to have permission to do a display like this from air traffic , as theres usually many light aircraft pottering along the coast ?

Ok Ive now been informed it was the Kent Spitfire, Is that now in PR blue or was it just my eyes in the blue sky sunlight ? and Is a Merlin or Griffon ? (crikey maybe my ears and eyes are going lol)
I would still like to know what the display was for and who was the pilot.
Hi tailslide TA 805 still in camo scheme & being a MKIX it has a merlin engine.

Oh so Im not sure which Spit then, It was definatly PR blue and had the stripes, and although Im no expert the engine did sound more like a Griffon

PM631 no longer has invasion stripes so it rules the BBMF aircraft out.
