Hi,
Can anyone please point me to a good source of information that might be able to provide current or known burial locations for German Luftwaffe air crew? I know there is a list on the air crew remembrance society website but it is incomplete from what I can make out. Any help or advice grately appreciated.

At last (sorry if you nodded off while you were waiting!)
The main crews are as follows:
Hans Witkopp
W. Bickel
A. Strauch
Magerhams
Szymanoski
Schmidtke
I hope these are the correct spellings. The idea is to add the info to the displays where there final resting places are.
Also, what about missing German crew members, is there anything like Runnymede for German crews?
Thanks

I visited Fradley grave yard yesterday afternoon. This proved that my memory is not what it was! There is only the one German grave as previously noted.
Joachim Shwartz. 31.5.15/25.6.41.
This grave is in a line of five the others being RAAF. He is buried in a plot together with thirty two other airmen mostly RAAF.
Locals talk of several burials where the coffins were transported from the airfield along the lane to the church on bomb trolleys.
Many apologies for my previous post in remembering incorrectly five German graves.
In view of the afternoons fine weather i took some photos of the scene including Schartzs final resting place.

The only casualty I can find at Fradley was on 25.6.41 and is Joachim Schwarz who was a He 111 pilot other 3 crew bailed out. It appears local residents objected to him being moved to Cannock Chase

You may already know from other sources/registers, but there are about 5 Luftwaffe graves in Fradley chuch yard which is about half a mile from the RAF airfield Lichfield, Staffs. I was told years ago that they crashed nearby.

The VDK leaflet that I picked up from Cannock says there are 4,940 burials in 19 plots (18 in the main cemetery and 1 plot containing the graves of Zepplin crews in an area adjacent to the entrace building) and 285 down the road at the CWGC cemetery.

Hi, Should get some names up this week coming as soon as I have had a wonder around the museum. Re the Cannock register, how many names are we talking about exactly?
By: Arabella-Cox - 24th September 2011 at 21:54
No. But all were generally early 1960s following the agreement between VDK and British authorities to establish the Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery.
If you needed the information as to when they were exhumed, then I would think that the cemetery where the airmen were originally buried would be able to help.

Andy Saunders
‘I have a full Cannock Register including registers of where the casualties came from and locations of burials that still exist in original locations (ie not moved to Cannock
Andy,
Does the copy of the register you have contain the dates of exhumation and re-internment.

Chris

And maybe someone might even pop over to Cannock Chase to photograph the headstones for you if they knew which ones they were.

I wonder would the poster care to clarify if they mean “in the UK” or “anywhere”?
Moggy
UK, thanks to all for the info, I was looking for a good resource, my reason is that we have a lot of Luftwaffe displays where it gives information on the crew as “Killed” some people assume this means they are still in their aircraft, I thought it would be a nice thing if we could gradually add their final resting place, this is important when displaying crashed material.
