What is it? (Recovered Spitfire part…)

Hi all!

I know there is people out there with a lot of knowledge about the various Spitfires and their internals…
This is a part of electrical equipment recently recovered from Spitfire Mk.IX MK997 in lake Samsjøen, Norway.
It is possible that it was located in one of the wings/wing roots.
The “box” got to connectors in either end with what appears to be two braided/shielded wires in each. The lid is attached with one screw in each corner and two in the centre. The lid also got an “Air ministry placard”, but no part number etc. is visible.
So,..what is it?
