I’ve seen mentioned in several Harrier books from the 80s’ the concept of the sky hook where they would hover in and be plucked out of the air, obviously this idea did fail but how far was the concept taken before being axed, did a Harrier ever successfully use one?

IIRC they made a mockup – and a Harrier was hovered within the ‘box’ required for hook up.
