Grumman F11F Tiger

Took a brief trip today to the National Museum of Naval Aviation at NAS Pensacola. I haven’t been in a few years, but wow has it changed! In any case, while I certainly recommend it for anyone who can make the trip, I’m starting this to see if we can come up with a good selection of photos on the Grumman F11F Tiger. I probably did this a year or two back, but after seeing a few examples today I was again inspired to ask to see what we can all come up with.

I took a few of the example in the museum, and I even sat in the cockpit of another that’s on display (Blue Angel colors…just the cockpit section). I can post them at some point if anyone would like. I’m interesting in seeing any type of photos of operational Tigers (be it their brief stint in the fleet or even the training duties they were assigned later).

I’m not sure what it is about this plane, but I’ve always liked it. I think it has beautiful lines, and I think it had a lot of potential for a longer career, but it was let down by an underperforming (namely unreliable) engine.

Anyone else fancy the original Tiger….the last Grumman ‘Cat before the Tomcat?

I wonder how it performed in mock combat against some of its other Navy brethren of the era.
