The Hunter F1 WT660 at the Highland Aviation Museum is due a repaint back to the mid 1950s scheme she wore while at the Day Fighter Leader School at West Raynham.
Does anyone have any photos of her, or her contemporaries, at DFLS?
Colour photos would be especially welcome, as the extent of the red paint on her tail, spine, and wings don’t show up too well in monochrome!
Any information on the codes she wore, and the various stencils would be appreciated.
The earliest I’ve found on the internet is this image of her at an RAF exhibition at Horse Guards Parade, maybe in the late 1950s or early 1960s?
Thanks in advance…

The Revell 1/72 F6 model had markings for an aircraft in this scheme – iirc there was a photo in Richard Ward’s Hunter Squadrons of the RAF – I’ll see if I can find the book.

Found this information on the net, from ‘Wings of Fame’ #20…
“The Day Fighter leader’s School (DFLS) received Hunters in 1955. “A”
Flight painted the spines of its Hunters red, with matching chord-wise bands
across the wings and tailplanes. “B” Flight used yellow. By the end of
1956, the coloured flight markings had spread to cover the entire fin and
tailplanes (but not usually the rudder or elevators)… “

Thanks Phil – she wears these spurious 43 Sqn markings at the moment…

How about something home grown?
I’m not sure the F1’s ever carried the bonny red/yellow marks of this unit until later when they had F6’s although I could be wrong. I’ll have a look in my Hunter archive! Failing that, why not do a Scottish based example like 43 Sqn?
