Well of course the riots were all Thatcher’s fault:dev2:
Don’t forget that so called s***te paper is the one that had the guts to keep digging into the NOW scandal
Before you ask, yes I do read the Guardian online, but then I also read the Telegraph online, the Sunday Times, the Independent online etc. the only paper I draw the line at is that hate rag the Mail
And the same ****e paper that championed wikileaks – one rule for a chavy red top and another for the parlour-room pinkos rag – I hate ’em all 🙂

Whilst there has been much debate on the point of impact, it looked to me from at least one of the videos, that the p51 was struck on the tailplane.

“The tip of his wing caught my undercarriage” he probably said empenage, but the journo either misheard, didn’t understand the nasty foreign sounding word or else just made the whole lot up…..
The retracting tail wheel assembly on the Mustang is part of the undercarriage and I would judge that to be the exact point of impact, driving through in to the rear of the radiator ‘dog house’.

It started life as a CAC Mustang 22 (A68-192), but was rebuilt with parts of P-51D 44-72917 and other ex-Philippine P-51s. So CAC or NA? Australian or US, you takes your choice.

My American P-51D Mustang?
My understanding is that the majority lineage of BBD is a Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation Mustang, built in Melbourne.
Picky, I know.:D

That had me wondering too.
Strong Parachutes of Florida have a great product there, worth every penny of the £1864.

As a guardian reader read previous articles in the same section to put the article in perspective. I.e how someone reacts to a situation.

1) Journos who write articles don’t write headlines… that’s the sub’s job.
2) Calling the Grauniad a s**te newspaper is like calling the Daily Heil a left-wing paper.
3) What’s odd about the photo? Genuine inquiry.

Political prejudice or not, it is clear to see that the Skyraider pilot is a lot less right wing than he was. 😉
The degree of calm and professionalism shines through that interview.

It’s true, the circumstances of Robs escape still amaze me weeks later.
Surprised to see a s***e paper like The Guardian running such a good article, thought they’d be too busy blaming the Tories for the riots:dev2:
So.. you thought wrong. I suppose the moral is read the paper before calling it names – especially when it means bringing unecessary political prejudice into a forum that is better without it.

The title though smacks a little bit of tablid sensationalism to try and ‘sex up’ the article and is not in keeping with the content of said article, ideally it should have read ‘I survived vintage plane crash’.
Unfortunately, you’re obviously not a pilot. Otherwise, the newspaper writer/reporter/editor might have said, “Hey, fella, here’s a deal. I won’t tell you how to fly an airplane if you don’t tell me how to write a headline, okay?”
By: DaveF68 - 13th August 2011 at 22:39
You have to take the title in context of the series to which this article belongs – have a look at the linked articles
By: FMK.6JOHN - 13th August 2011 at 22:31
I agree Kevin although the fact that he made that statement show to me at least that both pilots are at ease with that information being in the public domain, simple fact is accidents happen and the AAIB report will conclude deffinitavly what contributed towards that ‘mistake’.

Well I dissagree with the title, it implies blame when there has yet to be an AAIB report, typical of thoughtless reporting!
John.
I think the following…..
The Skyraider pilot freely admits he made a mistake, and I can’t feel any ill will over a slight error of judgment.
implies blame far more than the title which, really, is about as odd as the image.

I’m more amazed than ever before Rob made it down safely, reading his tale.
