Can anyone confirm if the Halifax ever used a grooved tail wheel tyre similar to the Lancaster? I know there was some commonality with tailwheels on some mks of Halifax and Lanc.
Thanks

Does anyone have Air Britains RAF Aircraft LA100-LZ999? I have gone through the other books – these are the Rootes built Halifax V candidates from the DG and EB serial ranges. All these aircraft are listed as missing – some from raids over Germany but I have included them as trying to get to neutral Sweden was common practice in a damaged aircraft:
DG244
DG245
DG252
DG349
DG405
DG406
DG423
EB207
EB209
EB211
EB212
EB213
EB214
EB215
EB216
EB217
EB218
EB239
EB242
EB243
EB244
EB246
EB249
EB250
EB251
EB252
EB253
EB254
EB255
EB257
EB258
EB274
EB276
Can anyone add in those from the LK and LL serial ranges please?

Nevermind my post, I just found the thread on the War Relics Forum about this crash site and the newspaper articles written after its discovery. Like I said, it was a real long-shot.

My apologies for resurrecting a ‘dead thread’ but a google search lead me to this forum. I was looking for information on aircraft LK971, a Halifax bomber from 434 Squadron of the RCAF that left RAF Croft AT 17:19 hrs on February 15, 1944 and disappeared without a trace.
The Bomb-Aimer, Donald Grant Goodfellow was born and raised in the home I now own and live and learning of this compelled me to find all I could about him, his service, his crew and the circumstance of their loss. The crew was approximately halfway through their 30 missions when they were lost, with a ‘second dickie’ on board as well. Since no trace of the crew and aircraft has been found, it is speculated they may have been shot down over the Baltic Sea by a Luftwaffe night fighter on their way to their target, Berlin.
Reading through these posts was very interesting, and despite it being a real long-shot, had to respond to it. Has there been any developments with this find since the last postings on this thread?

Thanks for the suggestions guys – we’ll see how I get on!
The part numbers in question are: Serial No JV94278,SM502B, AHM225, DRG No AH8013/2, ASM586.
Does that gobbledigook mean anything to anyone?

It’ll be quite hard to hide once I get it home so does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should tell the wife?:o
Tell her that it came with Issue 1 at the introductory price of £1.99 and that you’re intending to build the whole model….!

It’s part of a raised flower border project that you will get round to one day.
The tyre will be filled with rainwater and you’ll devise a solar powered pump facility to irrigate the flowers / vegetables.

Either that or the mother of all cup holders
Speaking of tailwheels seen this?
I saw that and in a moment of madness, bought it. I’m pretty sure it’s the real deal but can any part number afficionados confirm?

I have marked Kattegatt With Red.
I can recommend the site Scotavia mentions. its a interesting site but it dosent solve our problem but it do exclude some of the planes.
Its rather strange that there is no report of this plane plunging into the water although it crashed just on the edge of a heavily guarded minefield.
There was even a manned lightship close to the site.
You should also be able to see the crash from the shore.
It makes me wonder if it didnt crash at night or in really poor weather.

Now it’s just a simple matter of narrowing the list down to those Halifax’s lost in this area…
EB212 (Known to have crashed in the Baltic)
EB246
EB274
DG245
DK230 (Known to have crashed in the Baltic in the same raid as EB212)
DK267 (Known to have crashed landed in Sweden, so not likely.)
LK635 (unlikely)
LK666 (unlikely)
LK702
LK709
LK729
LK891
LK916
LK971
I would suggest ‘212 is the most promising candidate as it was lost on a raid against Peenmunde and is known to have crashed into the Baltic east of Moens Klint, although that would still be about 30kms south of your wreck site, Lasse. The difficulty is crews attacking targets in Denmark, North Germany and the Baltic coast were routinely instructed to make for Sweden in the event of damage that made it unlikely for them to get back over the North Sea.
