I need a bit of help with homework. I have to do a short story on women pilots during the war.
Does anyone know (now you might have to ask your Grannys) what the first few weeks of training involved for British women. Also where did they train..?
Can’t seem to find this exact info’ on websites as most of the sites give details on American women pilots (who were all brilliant). It’s possible the American training was the same..?
Any help would be most appreciated.

As mentioned above most of the early members of the ATA did have pilots licenses pre-war but as the organisation grew a lot of people were taken on who had to be taught from scratch. See my webpage below for some women pilots comments on their training at Haddenham plus a list of the training excersises. Also a few pages from a couple of logbooks.
The Maidenhead Heritage Centre are extremely helpful and usually answer an e-mail in a couple of days.
