In the August FlyPast it was reported that several F-105s that were used at the Lackland AFB, TX to train security forces were being scrapped.
Thankfully, that’s not accurate. Two of the ten have already found homes and the other eight have been earmarked for museums. (Though it’s possible some could be too far gone for display because of magnesium corrosion).
Also, it was suggested that an unnamed entity (probably referring to the Collings Foundation) wanted one to restore to flight, well that too has been denied.
All of their jets (Me-262, A-4, F-4) are two seat examples…and it’s thought any F-105 would be likewise.

Brilliant !! Every air museum should have a 105…….
What noise does a 105 make when it hits a cloud???……..” THUD “

I understand all the 105s are “D”s.
Many of the surviving 105s are “B”s so I’s think a stach of later variants would be welcome.
I’d imagine a museum could contact the NMUSAF and inquire about getting one.
‘D’ models?………bet they have fascinating combat records.
Glad the original story was wrong, the ‘Thud’ was one hell of a jet, some great books on it too.
