Yellow Wings

We’ve been following the Vintage Wings of Canada pilots on the Yellow Wings flight accross Canada to celebrate the BCATP. They are flying Harvard, Cornell and Stearman for this leg of the trip and hope to catch up with the Finch in Manitoba. The three aircraft are shown parked on the ramp in Springbank Alberta near Calgary.

if you have the passion to own and fly one you can paint it any colour you like.

A point often lost on the people who don’t actually own the aircraft. I was on the receiving end of some jobsworth prattling on about what colour the undercart of an F7F should be for damn near 45 minutes before I ended the conversation with a string of well chosen single syllable words.:D

In Brandon the fourth aircraft of the Yellow Wings tour joined us the Fleet Finch. The four of them are shown together at the #3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School at Southport Manitoba. Jill Oakes the Vintage Wings pilot talks to the Canadian Forces student pilots about what it is like flying the Finch.

Jill is a great gal.
Two weeks ago she came to visit me here in Ontario and spent three days with me while I checked her out on the Fleet Finch.
She had no problems with the transition to the Finch and had a great adventure flying it to meet up with us at Oshkosh.

Thanks for that, your right its always been a source confusion for me. The colour scheme is based on 439 Squadron markings used on the Sabre 6s based with RCAF 1 Wing. However the red ensign is actually the Manitoba provincial flag not the Canadian Red ensign.

Wow, unusual paintjob on that A26! It’s actually a Douglas A26 Invader rather than a Martin B26 Marauder. The designation of the A-26 was changed to B26 (the Martin Marauder was largely out of service by then) in 1947, and it’s been a source of endless confusion ever since!

Thanks for these pics, it’s great that the BCATP is still being commemorated so strongly.

This Bolingbrook is a familiar site on the way to the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum at Brandon Manitoba. A garden Boly?

While at St. Andrew’s Manitoba we were hosted by the owner of this A26 Marauder. The RCAF never flew these but if you have the passion to own and fly one you can paint it any colour you like. Ditto on his Harvard!
