Another Quiet Friday at Duxford – 15Jul11

The week after Legends is usually a quiet time at Duxford after the hustle and bustle of the air show, so I wasn’t expecting to see much action. As the bus got closer to the airfield I could see a Harvard out and about. As we arrived, there was a good smattering of airframes parked out on the grass in the ARCo compound and the TFC P-40B was parked on the airfield. I had a wander up the hangars and as I came out of the American Air Museum the P-40B was flying in for a bit of a display. I must be going deaf as I never even heard it take off. The ‘Cliff Spink School for Future Spitfire Pilots’ was in session as a student, having passed a check flight in the Harvard, was doing a series of take offs, circuits and landings from the front seat of the T9 with Cliff in the back. After that Cliff then took the Stearman for a spin. The twin engined Beech had a smokey engine run and the HAC Hurricane departed Duxford. Having flown in earlier in a Jet Ranger helicopter, Richard Lake took his Buchon for a bit of a bimble. He taxied it up to the western end of the airfield and back again. Wont be long now before he’s flying it. After that Cliff Spink took it up and threw it around the sky above Duxford airfield. The Mk 26 Spitfire also went flying and as I was leaving, the OFMC pair were parked out on the airfield for a late departure to spend the weekend at some little air show in Gloucestershire. Another quiet Friday at Duxford.
