Spitfire TE356..but where?

During the 1970’s TE356 moved from Little Rissington to Cranwell and finally Leeming. The style of mount and even the rockery were similar or were developed over time.

Can anybody please confirm 100% this location with the tower to the rear?

Spitfire

I was at Leeming (well my Dad was) from 1977 until 1980.

Cannot remember the Spitfire at all. All I can remember was the Javelin by the main entrance.

Man, I had great plans for this collection, including a mega bucks sale (with provenance) to The Association of Professional Landscapers. But now it looks like I’m caught between a rock and a hard place…

There are rockeries and there are ROCKERIES!

Crystal Lakes, Montana July 2004.

Full size Stonehenge, still weathering in…give it a 1000 years.

presumably somebody picked up a pebble from the real Stonehenge to give it provenance and an identity

The problem with that thesis Paul, is that I have this project with matching numbers. Carved in stone, so to speak. So, which is the genuine article, yours or mine..?

T J

In that case I will engage in delaying tactics, or do everything in my power to block your project…

In fact I will….

I know this is kind of weird but googling the words `Aircraft in Rockery` throws up this

Went up to the neighbour’s fence with a step ladder and long lens to photo his rockery. I protested to the police this is standard air-show practice, but they were having none of it. Thankfully I was let off with a caution 😀

OK I surrender. What is that in the photo? A Spitfire I/Vb/IXb without the second chimney pot casting, and multiple exhaust stacks in the dreaded 1940-41-42-43 paint scheme of a 609 squadron Typhoon? 🙂

Dan

A replica Mk V painted in the livery of 609 Squadron (May 1941 – May 1942) and I would make a guess that the codes are those of Roland Beamont.

Photograph as promised, I hope it is of use and interest? The occasion was the opening of Leeming’s Historical Training Facility, history room, and a medal presentation ceremony on 3 June 2010. It shows the water tower, to put JT442 out of his misery although it may bring a tear or two to Firebex’s eyes!

Many thanks David.

I am sure Firebex had to grit his teeth to apply that code. 🙂
