Mk4A Helmet Colours

Looking to refurb a couple of tatty Mk4A helmets but would like to ensure that they are the correct colour. So, does anyone know the name/code for both the correct olive green and light blue colours used on these helmets? Alternative is to paint them gloss white, but I’d rather not.

TIA.

Need to be careful as the finish could look weird! My Mk4A4 at work is lovely and worn (but still is ‘S’), so unless you want it to look new, I’d leave it be….I will ask the SE section if you like.

Prob be Better to ask your Painter and Finshers if you have any left wherever your based 🙂

Hi Guys I can point you in the right direction.
As i was once a RAF Painter and Finisher and now a Current RAF Survival Equipment Fitter.

The Helmets came in 4 main colours

Polyurethane Semi matt Dark Green
Polyurethane Gloss White
Polyurethane Gloss Yellow
and Polyurethane Semi matt Dark Grey

All the paints at the time i was in were made by PPC paints and they will have the numbers you need

“Olive Drab” is the name of the colour not the finish so it can be matt, satin or gloss. Having said that, I gave you duff gen – BS381C:220 Olive Green was the colour I actually had in mind, not Olive Drab which is too ‘brown’!

Mart Aviation used to have a section on their website showing how they refurbished their helmets. Unfortunately it’s long gone now but I’m fairly certain it was “Olive Green” they referred to on there.

I appreciate it’ll vary from monitor to monitor but I’ve got my monitor calibrated pretty accurately and BS381C:220 shown here appears to be good match for both my Mk.3C helmets and a Mk.4 shell I have kicking around.

I was repainting mine, 220 is where I’d start for a colour match I think.

Mark – Thanks for the info. Think matt may be too drab though, and one shell has remnants of gloss finish, the other is more of a satin finish.

Tony – You haven’t seen the condition of these shells 😮 They really do need a repaint as they are certainly not ‘lovely and worn’. More like ‘ugly and beat-up’. New look I can probably live with.

BS381C:298 Olive Drab maybe?

I’m guessing there but it doesn’t look too far off.
