When the Essex Aviation Group had the hut at Duxford (ok I am old enough to remember that little treasure trove) they had the wreckage of a Merlin from a P-51B which they recovered which is listed as ‘P-51B Crashed Lawling Hall August 1944’

Can anyone ID this aircraft and give the exact loss date?

12/8/1944 16.10 hrs P-51B 43-6972 (QP-T) 334th FS 4th FG crashed at Lawling Hall. Pilot Ltn. J E Jahnke bailed out. Aircraft buried and burnt out, 2 unfused 500 lb bombs in crater.
Jerome Jahnke visited EAG Museum in July 1976.
