PO HD Murray

This airman is buried in a chuch local to me. Every year the church has an open day when there are displays on the history of the area. They would like to add something about PO Murray and I said I would enquire here to see if there was any info on his service etc , so any assistance would be gratefully received!

Thank – you for that, most of it is new information to me. One is left wondering why he was buried in a little graveyard in Yorkshire a long way from the crash. I can only surmise that he perhaps married in this area

Apologies if you already have this information, but P/O Hugh Douglas Murray, service number 127523, 26 OTU, on Wellington IC DV885, was killed in a training accident 6/11/42. T/O Little Horwood reported crashed near the airfield. P/O Murray, a Canadian from Vancouver serving with the Volunteer Reserve was killed along with Sgt. J W Wilde, Sgt J.M Lennox, F/S W C Ferguson DFM, Sgt H Bailey and Sgt Clarke was injured. P/O Murray was buried in Kirk Sandall Churchyard, the rest in their home towns, as reported in Bomber Command Losses book, and Canadian Virtual War Memorial site.

Not much info, but hopefully someone will add more. Jack
