Grace Spitfire told ''You're too noisy ! ''

A bit of huffing and puffing in the Daily Mail, regarding the single complaint to Suffolk District Council about the well-known Spitfire.

How this equates to ‘nearly being grounded’ is not clear. The aeroplane is said to be one of just a pair of airworthy two-seaters.

”But one person complained about the roar of the engine – which struck fear into German Luftwaffe pilots in the Battle of Britain ”- Guess they must have been flying gliders, to hear the roar of another aeroplane.

Me thinks we should organise a Key forum event locally and invite some friends to entertain us :dev2:

I have some very large twin blade helios training overhead during the hours of darkness at very low levels. The cats might complain but the missus and I don’t as we know they have a job to do.

Even my chickens don’t lay premature eggs that mess up the floor so the bit in a well known film isn’t correct.

We used to get the Concorde double boom in Cornwall 9pm every evening. On ‘quiet’ evenings we would sit outside to listen to it.

Baz

I remember that. Seem to remember that if the boom was from the South it was a French one hooning down the English Channel & if the boom was from the North it was a BA one heading down the Bristol Channel.

I was in my garage on Saturday & there was a double boom from over towards Edwards AFB followed a few seconds later by another pair. Guess the 2nd one was the chase plane. Those booms will really rattle metal garage doors… 🙂

Exactly – the micro-minority always seem to get the attention. Like the 6 people who complain about something on a TV show watched by 5 million. Now if 500,000 complained, it would still be a minority, but one to which attention should be paid.

Bring on the Merlins, I say!!:D

If 500,000 complained about a TV show the producers would rub there hands in glee knowing they had a hit!!!! and yes that show GLEE got around 150,000 complaints when it aired in the USA now we have to put up with it!!!!

The Major flies his Spitfire over Skeggy most weeks, wonderfull thing to hear and nobody gives a monkeys **** about the noise, I have heard complaints that he never flies it low enough though!!!

With the search facility still crippled can somebody give me a count of the current UK population of two-seaters? (To answer a question elsewhere)

Retired air traffic controller, David Coulson, said he was methodical about registering his complaints. “Every time I’m disturbed, I note the time down, that’s it. It works out at about 150 to 200 times a month.” Mr Robinson said part of the increase in complaints was due to a change in the reporting system

You should consider doing that Baz, it’s not like you’re in a position to be disturbed or anything:diablo:

Yes, and that’s the problem of course.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion; its not obligatory to like Spitfires flying overhead, but in operating them, care should be taken not to overfly villages and so on, to keep the complaints to a minimum. This is something that I know most airfield operators are quite strict about – for precisely that reason.

You will however always get the odd compaint – unavoidable.

takes me back to the woman that protested about concordes noise going into JFK

We used to get the Concorde double boom in Cornwall 9pm every evening. On ‘quiet’ evenings we would sit outside to listen to it. One evening it stopped and we never heard it again, sometime later in the local rag in the letters column, someone asked why. The following week this was answered by a gentleman in St Ives who admitted gleefully it was him. He had complained to the council, who had followed it up. Concorde could only travel supersonic once it had passed Cornwall, so the joy of our window rattling was lost forever:(

What I’m trying to say here, sadly, it only takes one complaint for a knee-jerk reaction.

We had a B2 go blasting out of Plant 42 a couple of weeks back at 5.30am on a Saturday.

Woke up the entire valley, population 300,000

Number of complaints: 0

My other form of enjoyment is speedway. Not so long ago someone tried to get Mildenhall Stadium closed, noisy motorbikes? two or so hours, once a week. Nothing was said about the big American jobbies that flew overhead. Last time I was there nothing could be heard, not even the person next to me, when they did. Or is that different?
