With the forecast of wall to wall rain in the afternoon, just a morning visit and although it did rain a bit over lunchtime, it was no where near wall to wall as forecast. Apart from a Chipmunk landing, the only other aircraft movement was the Catalina which was heading off across the water and Europe to Switzerland.

The following photos are a bit of an experiment as I was using the ‘Hand Held Twilight’ mode of the Sony A580 for no other reason than I wanted to try it out. According to the instruction manual ‘A burst of shots are taken, and image processing is applied to reduce subject blur, camera shake, and noise.’ I believe the burst, and it’s about 6 in rapid succession, is at different settings as it would be in an HDR image and processed the same. The down side is that as it’s automatic, there is no control over shutter speed, aperture or ISO and the ISO does go up at times into 4 figures.

The P47 seems to be coming along nicely considering how long it seemed like nothing was happening with her. I say “seemed like” as although there was little visible sign of progress I am well aware that a lot of the mundane but necessary work was going on out of the public eye.

Really nice, crisp shots there Brian, even the grey clouds in the Catalina pic look superb!

I doubt the P-47 will be running anything for a while!

nice too see the staggerwing back at DX. Are they preparing the P-47 for engine runs at all?
