Meteor T7 WA591 – flew today!

Hi all,

Its being reported on another forum that Meteor T7 WA591 was test flown today from Kemble. Don’t have too many other details – one report of ‘issues’ whilst in flight but again unconfirmed.

Can’t find any airborne pictures anywhere – perhaps it is too soon?

Anybody else have more info?

It was my choice of colours to go for Carmine and Cream as per Gloster G-AKPK but it was not to be. Sadly if painted in those colours she would not be able to wear the Reg G-AKPK as it was obviously already displayed by the Real G-AKPK and would have lookd silly with G-BWMF displayed instead.

The RAF training colours were favoured as it was more apealing to the masses and be a true representation of the colours that WA591
( G-BWMF ) once wore for real.

Here is a Good Pic from the Meteor Flight Website of G-BWMF’s First Flight just after take off and just before landing.

Regards
Mark

According to what I’ve read, it’s going to be painted with the FMK-O code and in the RAF training scheme that it wore at RAF Driffield.

Having only returned from volunteering at the Cotswold Airshow last night, I’ve just had a chance to look at my shots of the first flight. Heres just the one for now, just after takeoff. Well done to the Meteor Flight and their many supporters for the epic achievement> It was definately squeaky bum time for a few minutes there when we heard the Pan-Pan and Mayday over the radio, but we were elated when she touched down safely.

…………………

God, don’t people over dramatise things when a small bit of info is only available ……………. Why not elaborate on the positive things from the flight of our Meteor T7.

Mark Jones ………..

Shaft is a jet display pilot and Phil is an engineer…. I would suggest that identifying potential snags during a test flight is more interesting to them than the actual flight itself. I don’t think that either were over-dramatising… simply interested in a flight test issue.

DGH,

You are spot on, that is how it was.

God, don’t people over dramatise things when a small bit of info is only available Rather than wait for a proper on the spot report from someone who was there ( I was not but have spoken to leading members who were. )

Why not elaborate on the positive things from the flight of our Meteor T7.

What is quite poiniant ( spelling ? ) is that dear old WA591 ‘s last flight for retirment was into Kemble on 3rd May 1965.

46 years 1 month 1 week and 4 days later she flew for the first time after extensive restoration work from Kemble.

😀

problems reported were, left gear not coming down, low fuel and left engine was shut down

I was of the understanding that there was not a green showing for the left gear so confirmation was required from the ground that the gear was indeed down, this led to extra time in the air, which led to the low fuel situation, which led to one of the engines being shut down in order to save fuel. Hope that helps.

They are pretty bad snags… I take it all were electrical faults?

Great to see it fly, but that was some pretty shoddy camera work there! 😮

Congrats to the team involved though. Will hopefully catch it at a show sometime wearing it’s new scheme. 🙂

Fantastic. I love the cheers on the take-off video as it lifts-off. You can imagine the sense of achievement that must be. Well done to all the guys involved on the project.

Fantastic fantastic fantastic. WOHOO.

But Sad as I could not make it to the day it first flew as was having to sign off some camera intallations in a Thruster TST for the BBC.

Why is it these things always happen when you cannot back out of it.
Realy sad I missed the first flight. I put a lot of hard work into this aircraft in the early days and helping to set up the Flight. I am still sort of involved but not hands on and seem very detached now. Good to know that some of the instruments and parts I have sourced recently and way back in 1990’s are now airborne. Engines come to mind, along with a big stash I found and negotiated a deal to clear in payment with Meteor parts.
