Grunau Baby takes to the air again

Our Gruanu Baby 2b BGA2238 has flown again at last. It last flew more than 20 years ago with the RAFGSA. Due to strong winds over the last month it has flown today. We have owned it for 20 years. With a on/off restoration due to other work on gliders. Willy Hackett gave it 2 test flights this morning. He later flew it in the Shuttleworth Air Display, as it was to windy to fly the Scud 2. The Shuttleworth Trust have also bought a Slingsby Kirby Kite 1 BGA 310.

Many thanks for kind words. I also have to thank my son, Paul who has helped on the Grunau restoration. We looked through the old RAFGSA DI book. It was last DI in May 1968! When it got badly damaged at Bicester. So it hasn’t flown for 43 years. We where given it by the late Harry Chappel 20 years ago. Another photo of Willy landing our Grunau after its first flight in 43 years.

The Grunau’s ID was RAFGSA 380. It was doped sliver, which was very hard to remove.

Please what was it’s ID with the RAFGSA?

Great to see it completed.

John
