One of my colleagues at work recently brought in one of her Fathers flying logs from WWII, it runs from 1942-1945
He was an RAF pilot, with 235 squadron, its a fascinating read, starting with training on Stearmans at Clewiston in Florida, then moving onto Harvards, Oxfords, Blenheims, Beaufighters, Hurricanes, Mosquitos and Beauforts.
She doesnt really know too much about his flying career, and unfortunatly he is not with us anymore to find out from, one page caught my eye in particular, on the 02nd Feb 1943 whilst flying a Beaufighter it shows as ‘Armed Recco, HA138 destroyed, damaged by flak’.
I assume an HA138 is the same as the BV138 flying boat ?
Is there any way of finding out more about this incident ?, What exactly he destroyed and where ?, she seems to remember he did a lot of stuff up around Norway, which makes sense as he was flying out of Leuchars on this op.
His name was RG Wigmore, Robert George, not to be confused with William Charles Wigmore, who was also flying with 235 Squadron at the same time as him, no relation though.
Thanks for any info you can offer
Mike
