9pm BBC1 tonight, a film celebrating that most patriotic of British towns Wootton Bassett (keep your tissues handy :()
This quaint little piece of England doesn’t only bow it’s head and fall silent once a year like all other towns, they do it many many times every year to show thier respect for the brave men and women of our armed forces.
Only we Brits could turn out in our hundreds to show our support in that stiff upper lip way that we have about us.
I would post that it’s a pity more towns couldn’t be like Wooton Bassett but that would mean more of the lads and lasses of our fantastic armed forces would be spilling their blood on foreign soil, fact is there are more towns who feel the same way but thank god they don’t get the chance to show it.
In my opinion, though this is the price we pay to live in a free world just one drop of british blood and one family with a fallen loved one is one drop of blood and one tear too many.
Wootton Bassett and our armed forces, if there were salute smilies I would post a million of them.

Wootton Bassett
Writing as one who has stood out there, it isn’t just the town turn out but a whole host of people far and wide make their way to the town to pay respects to our fallen, we are only the location.
It’s no great hardship for me to stand and pay respects to servicemen who have paid with their tomorrows. I live on the High Street in Wootton Bassett.
As an air despatch friend of mine said to a member of a regimental representation ‘hope I don’t see you again’.
