Just came across this interesting picture of Spitfire PK599 after it crashed during a failed go-around attempt at Manchester on May 11th, 1950.
Here it is a year before the crash. Same photographer.

Good job it didn’t land on a cricket pitch and hit the wicket and bails.. I am lead to believe…those things can have a similar effect on the wing….

PK599 / Q3-K PK599 flown by 613 (City of Manchester) Squadron pilot Bill Barlow had to overshoot the runway. On opening the Griffon’s throttle to go round again, the severe torque pulled the aircraft over. It was damaged beyond repair but the Royal Auxiliary Air Force pilot survived unscathed.
Interesting how the 20mm seems to have dug in and been ripped through the wing.

Thats a sad sight – but looks like the cockpit and hood stayed intact so hopefully the pilot did also. Just love those late Spitfires so prefer the second photo!.
