I’ll try to keep this brief… 😉
As you all probably already know, Mr Mike Eastman aka Firebex and the Aircraft Restoration Group are presently collecting all available information to construct a full sized, aluminium replica of the Westland Whirlwind Fighter.
The aircraft, without engines is estimated to cost with materials and overheads somewhere in the region of £40-45K labour free. It is envisaged starting cutting metal towards the back end of this year. An expected build time to produce a free-standing replica of the Whirlwind in 4 -5 years…
We’re looking at various ways to supplement funding for the P9 Project, one that has been successful before is to ask for gifted artists as your selves to donate a painting or paintings to the project for resale as a limited run of quality prints. Some of which could be signed by surviving Whirlwind Pilots; the original painting would be auctioned. Obviously we would give full acknowledgement to the artists concerned…
So anyone so inclined to produce a painting, drawing or sketch of the beast and looking for detailing images or photos of the Westland Whirlwind, contact me at the email address below and I’ll see what I can do to help…
