What with the fundraising for the 748, the very exciting Whirlwind plans pulling together all kinds of people on here, talk of a shared-ownership scheme for AR213 and the Wright Flyer on Evilbay, I was thinking – what WOULD be the ideal forum-owned back-to-flight project?
What would attract the most input, in terms of time and finance? What would lend itself to shared ownership in terms of opportunity for enjoyment by all afterwards? A transport we could all get trips in, or a light aircraft that is really cheap to operate? Surely not another Spitfire (even without considering the expense) – something rare? Or would that limit its appeal?
Just for fun – any thoughts? I’ll start the ball rolling.. Airspeed Oxford. Relatively simple to maintain. Can carry a few people as ‘reward’ for input, sufficient ‘warbird’ cache, rare enough to be interesting but not undocumented and with several complete examples to draw on.
