Duxford In The Round(ish) – 27Mar11

While I can still afford it, I’ve treated my self to a Sony Alpha A580, 16.2MP DSLR camera for the new air show season. Tried it out at Duxford on Sunday and from a first use I’m quite impressed with the rather fast auto focus and the quality of the images.

I though the in-camera panorama sweep would be a gimmick until I tried it.

“What a mistake-a to make-a!”

I had great fun that afternoon with it despite the looks from museum visitors. I was holding the camera at arms length in portrait mode so I could see the live view screen, while panning slowly left to right with the camera rattling off the images like a machine gun. It instantly processes those multiple images to make one panoramic image. Downside. It did eat up the battery a bit. Because of my hand held wobbly vision, these have been cropped, in camera only, on all sides but I should imaging that mounted level on a tripod, that shouldn’t be a problem. This is much easier than taking individual images and stitching them together yourself.
