Andy Saunders is 'off line' and advises…

that the copper cables providing him and the village where he lives with landline and internet services have been stolen and are not likely to be replaced by BT before next Tuesday.

He may be contacted by mobile phone on the number on his Web site.

Funny that the GPO yard behind me that isn’t a million miles away was burning off cable last night. Usual pollution. However this is obviously just speculation you understand.:(

Yes Andy you are well informed telecommunications copper cable was used due to its quality and tensile qualities.

Clearly K5054 parts are not very rare and therefore of little value, I may have to put the airframe on ebay, I am sure you are all aware the prototype contained a good deal of fibreglass?

The mistake BT made was leaving the specification label on it;

“Cable. Copper. Type K5054”

Thank you Peter for the public service announcement!

Now back up and running.

Its the second time in four months this has happened, wiping out half of the village. I thought we were all fibre optics these days. Apparently not! But then we were seemingly the last place in world to get broadband and have only just got rid of our wind-up telephones.

The scrap metal dealers must take some responsibility for this issue – they must be aware that a van load of copper sheets or a pick up full of telephone cables hasn’t come from a legitimate source.

I was reading my Dads railway mag today,some w****** broke into the boiler shop on the Severn Valley railway and stole a load of copper sheeting cut ready for some boilers.They had attempted it the night before but failed,returned the next night,used two ladders to get to an air vent,got in that way hot wired a crane to move the stuff to near the door then nicked the chain from the crane for the scrap too!
The punishments for all theiving needs to be higher,seems the only way to stop it. :dev2:

We get regular thefts from the local railway lines, church roofs, school roofs etc. I personally think that the thieves should have their hands cut off when caught as they don’t seem to leave anything alone, even returning later when they are caught and have to leave empty handed at the first attempt.

They have heli patrols on railways to check for this……. thieving scum

Heli here caught someone loading copper cable in van, so they used the speaker to say stop, he did, dropped it and legged it in van, heli chased and police stopped, because heli shouted stop, van empty and copper cable that driver claimed he found on rail land still… had to let him go……
copper was about £!000 worth……….as signals down caused days of delays and some £60000 just to replace the cable !!!!!!
