Hurricane crash landing, who when where?

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11511442/Image%20%2854%29.jpg

This was posted on a model site that I frequent, with a “who, what when” request. Unusual markings on the Hurricane with a small code letter on the tail.

Its 08:00 or so, off to have breakfast and a shower so I guess all will be known by, say 08:15 !?

I am pretty sure this is Group Captain Mike Pedley’s (MP) 43 Squadron Hurricane, North Africa, late 1942, when he led 323 Wing.

Not certain it is Pedley standing in front, as he had a small moustache in the photos I have.

I thought/assumed Italy for some reason, landscape, sidearm but that is speculation on my part 100% and nothing else.

All I can possibly offer is that it appears to have a desert air intake fitted. 1943 onwards, maybe?
