I know she’s just emerged from her deep service and has a new paint job.
She looks very nice indeed in her original 16Sqn colours but how well
is she stencilled?
I’ve only seen one small portside view so I cant really determine.
My Airfix IX/XIX PR.XI conversion is in the “paintshop” at the moment
and will emerge as PL965 in her new clothes when finished.
Is anyone “close” to her so that I might get an answer?
Many thanks,Mark

And probably sadly 99% of people won’t even know they are there.
Who cares about them? What’s important is that us 1% can(‘t) nitpick!

I can confirm the absolute professionalism of Steve and Warbird Colour Services! He did a project for me and went all the way to get it 100% accurate. Indeed, he created a special font to get it exactly right! Amazing attention to detail and accuracy:eek:

In some cases, again particularly US manufacturers, stencils were little used and the majority of the markings were applied by rubber stamps (P-51) or water-slide decals (P-40 for example). We reproduce these too.

What fonts do you use for the different bits of stenciling?
We (Warbird Colour Services) create our own fonts for our various projects. We have several RAF WWII period fonts and also, uniquely, have re-created the ‘Castle Bromwich’ font used for the larger sized Spitfire stencils in 1944/45 – all taken from original surviving examples. Some manufacturers, largely US based, used standard fonts that can still be obtained commercialy – trying to get this detail right is something we take very seriously. In some cases, again particularly US manufacturers, stencils were little used and the majority of the markings were applied by rubber stamps (P-51) or water-slide decals (P-40 for example). We reproduce these too.
Thanks mate, have you ever stencilled a Spitfire in 1/72nd scale!!!!!
Mark;)
Only ever done it 1:1 scale!!
I guess the stencils will be applied as soon as the top coat has been put on over the primer:D:D:D
Just cos its not one of your nice shiny Navy aeroplanes!! 😀

I could not possibly answer that as its me doing it – but a great deal of research has gone in to getting the detailing as close to Mk XI standard as humanly possible. The stencils are about 80% complete at the moment and its going to be a week or two before she is totally finished.
Thankyou Steve.
I reckon that just about answers my question, she’s about 80% stencilled now,
but in a couple of weeks she’ll be fully stencilled.
So full stencilling it is for my rendition.
