Is this from a Rotol prop hub?

I found this at a Whitley site last year – it’s a heavy steel ring with an outer thread and five teeth which take small set screws. The OD is approx 19cm (7.5″).

It’s quite corroded so no numbers – It doesn’t look like airframe to me and I wondered if it was some sort of adaptor nut from a Rotol hub. Does anyone recognise it? I can’t see it in any of my books…!

I’m not sure what the technical description would be but it definitely looks ROTOL to me. I’ve removed a similar piece from the end of a ROTOL propeller blade; its purpose is to retain (and pre-load) the bearings that sit between the inner and outer cuffs of the blade…

…if that makes any sense. 😮

Pre load nut

Pre-load nut from an RXF 75-deg Rotol airscrew?
