Well worth a pint or two

Two west country breweries have paid homage to a couple of historic aircraft types by using them promote their products. I like the Navay connection with the Swordfish brew – it’s laced with rum!

I know of Spitfire, which didn’t include an image of one, but have there been other brews which use aircraft to promote them?

My apologies if this subject has been covered before.

Nieuport 17 Ale

Fulstow brewery in Louth, Lincolnshire have had loads of aviation themed ales over the years. Ales brewed in genuine cask conditions using only malt, hops, ground-loop 😮 yeast and water!

A couple of Battle of Britain themed beers:

By the Wolfbrewery. 10% of proceeds go to the RAFA wings apeal.

And

From Chiltern Brewery. A donation is made from the sale of each bottle to the RAF Halton charities.

A tasty way to do a good deed for charity hic!

If we start talking about Lancasters then we must not forget the mighty Halibag…

It is quite a nice brew too.

Ah yes Lancaster Bomber beer. I was fortunate enough to be at Duxford just prior to B17 Liberty Belle returning home, and the pilot was offering up some bottles of this that he had been given previously to any takers, as they needed to save some weight for the journey home. I subsequently stepped forward and took delivery ;). I kept a couple unopened as a momento.

Thwaites ‘Lancaster Bomber’

Wolf – ‘Battle of Britain’

To name but two, and there are loads!

Bruce

PS – expecting Tesco to stock anything half decent is optimistic. Unless they can screw the brewer down to less than it cost to produce, it wont happen. The margins on beer are frighteningly small!

Moonlight = Arkells

Nice beer – has been out for some years now. It was brewed to celebrate Peter (?) Arkell’s
action as a Lysander pilot.

They are both bottle beers

They are both bottle beers so you should be able to get them from tesco, asda or sainsbury or delivered direct

last year we had
A Staffordshire pub will be marking the Battle of Britain by staging a beer festival featuring some 30 aviation-themed real ales.

The Bulls Head in St John’s Square, Burslem will begin its two-week festival on 14 September, the day before Battle of Britain Day. The cask ales will include Spitfire, Lightning, Hurricane, Victor, Valiant and Vulcan (the V Bombers) and a Mustang Mild.

The event is intended to raise funds for the RAF Association Wings Appeal, which provides welfare and care for those serving and ex-serving members of the RAF who are in need. Landlord Bob Crumpton, a big aviation fan, said “We should support and remember our heritage and this is our way of commemorating the heroism and ultimate sacrifices made during the Battle of Britain. It is something that should not be forgotten.”

Last year the Bull’s Head raised over £400 for the Wings Appeal – hopefully this year it will be even more successful.
