Hi all,
a few years ago I was given a small bag of airframe parts , and on the bag, all it says is “HUNTER- WILMINGTON” ???
I have gone through the air britain book 1945 to 1999 post war losses and have drawn a blank.. I dont even have a serial number to go on,
Can anyone shed any light on this incident, the aircraft , the serial number
etc.
If I at least find a serial number then I can find out its history.. do any of you live near Wilmington.. and do any of you know the story, or perhaps witnessed the actual incident… ?? or have photo’s of this Hunter in service
Any help would be really appreciated
Thanks in anticipation.

Hunter Crash
I recently went to the cemetery at Biggin Hill to photograph the grave of F/L John L Taylor. Next to his headstone is the one for F/O John Munroe, which I also have a photo of if you are interested.

Extract from ‘Category Five’
17 Apr 56, WN965, Hunter 5, Wilmington near Dartford
The aircraft took off normally, turned starboard into the safe lane and climbed away. However, shortly afterwards, the aircraft dived vertically into the ground. Although several theories as to the loss were considered, none could be proved. Flying Officer John Philip James Munroe, 23

WN965
Hunter F5
41 Sqn
Dived into the ground at Wilmington, Kent after take off from Biggin Hill. The pilot was killed. No cause was found.
taken from UK Serials site confirms the above too…
Found an illustration of the same aircraft on the Wings Palette site too, which might be handy for you?
Also a photo of it in better days is online HERE although the date given of 1957 must be incorrect?

I guess being way back in 1956 the chances of finding a photo are remote. but worth trying for ..
many thanks once again 🙂
